Established in 1965, the Kawal Tiger Reserve sanctuary has always been in the limelight due to the prominent presence of lush greenery. This tourist attraction is situated in the Adilabad district (Jannaram Mandal) of Telangana.
With Chandrapur and Yavotmal in the north, Nanded district in the west, and Karimnagar in the south, Kawal wildlife sanctuary was claimed as a protected land (PA) in 1999 under the wildlife Protection Act 1972.
This well-known sanctuary was declared as the Tiger reserve in 2012 by the Government of India. The entire land covers a total area of 893 km2.
Starting from the Sahyadri Ranges, this sanctuary is widened to the Tadoba forest (Maharashtra). Unfortunately, the existence of this heritage site is severely threatened by human invasion, illegal wood trafficking, and unbridled poaching.

If you drive via SH1-SH7, then you will have to cover a distance of 255 km. On the other hand via AH 43 it is nearly 291 km, in the end, via NH163-SH7 it is approximately 310 km by road. Else, form Mancherial, the forest shares a distance of 50 km. |

Best time to explore Kawal Tiger Reserve
Considering the best time to explore the Kawal forest, you need to consider the winter season. If you want to experience the wild animals in their natural habitat, then visit this dense wood from November to April. During these months the temperature fluctuates between 17°c to 27°c.
Due to that pleasant weather, the animals tend to come out of the woods to enjoy the warm sunrays. Else, you can also visit this sanctuary during the monsoon and breathe in fresh petrichor.
